The Tricryptogon

Banny And Lissa
by Dave Lerner

Sorry about the absence. I hope to be back by September 15 October 6, with a full explanation. Or, at least, a decent excuse.

Banny: if a naive sea lion Jedi master who drove Nascar and made Thor sick as an astronaut couldn't do this, how can I?

Chapter 45: Panderson Real Estate

Lissa made the call. "Lizzie? It's me. Yeah, I know, whoever calls is 'me', but this is me. Me me.Yeah, me. Listen, we gotta talk. It's important." She set up an appointment, later that day, for her and Banny to meet in Lizzie's office.

Panderson Real Estate occupied a small but dignified suite on Beacon street. The decor was suitable for a law firm, one of those real old real expensive firms where the senior partners had once represented Abel's family in that Wrongful Death suit.

Lissa and Banny went to Lizzie's office. Remember your lines, girl, She thought. Remember your lines, and don't even think about Judas What's-'is-name. The guy who betrayed his life-long best friend. That's it. "Lizzie... I am in a tight spot. You were right. Look, I need... I need a job. I'm a real hard worker. Well, okay, not really, but for you I will be. I swear."

Banny added, "I've actually tried hard work It damn near killed me. But I'll try again."

Lizzie giggled at that. "Do you have a Massachusetts Real Estate Salespersons License, Banny? I can't put you in sales without one. No problem, I'll have Kaylin train you. About four or five weeks you'll be a real estate agent. Lissa, I know you don't do sales, but I could use someone to..." Very long pause. "Duncan needs a secretary! Yeah! He's our number one agent, even better than me. Though I don't have as many hours to sell, since I do run the place. Anyhoo, he needs his own secretary he doesn't have to share with the rest of the staff." Lizzie was pleased she was able to find a spot. "And it'll be a great incentive to the others to get their numbers up. Uh...Banny, I hate to ask... but... couldn't your father...?"

Lissa hoped that Banny would screw it all up here so they could just go home.

"Me and dad don't talk much. We sorta had an argument about my life. He seemed to think I needed one. We can't exactly go to him for help."

"That's sad. Banny, why don't you call your father? Or, let me call. Lissy can tell you, my father died when I was young. We left on bad terms. And you probably know how Lissy left things with her father. I don't want that to happen to you. Don't bother refusing, you're not a good enough salesman yet to win."

* * * * * *

Lissa wanted to pick a fight with someone. Anyone. So she went out driving in Boston traffic. Normally trying to find a parking spot on Mass. Ave. was a little too violent, even for her, but tonight... She discovered it was even better if she put her Ring of Beneficience in her pocket, and fought normally and let the injuries stay unhealed.

Banny stayed home and read the file on Elizabeth Panderson and Panderson Real Estate, feeling like a voyeur. Surprisingly, this time he didn't like the feeling.

Elizabeth Mary Panderson was born at Cardinal Sin Hospital, Binghamton, on September 14, 1979 to Thomas Panderson and Wilhelmina (Stavros) Panderson. She had the normal childhood diseases and injuries, and was somewhat obese . Her father died when she was thirteen, and her mother when she was twenty-two.

Panderson went to Binghamton Elementary school, and graduated Binghamton High School in 1996. She worked a few minor jobs, eventually winding up in the Costumer Service Department of Fflair Theatrical Costumes. She took evening courses in Psychology, Social Working, and Meddling For Your Own Good. She was friendly; everybody liked her and she liked everybody.

So far, Banny knew or had heard all this stuff.

Nine months ago she quit school and Fflair, took a real estate course, and got her license. She borrowed money from a number of prominent rich people (Banny was oddly relieved that his father was not one of them) and, with no business or real estate experience, opened her own agency.

The defection of two top salespeople from one firm and one from a second, all to her, and an opportunity to grab five percent of a hundred million dollar office building sale gave her little company the boost it needed in those early days. A scandal involving a major competitor on an important piece of property continued her rise.

Two of her debtors had died, with no heirs or claimants surviving. She paid back the loan to the rest of her investors, with interest, ahead of schedule.

Now Panderson Real Estate was one of the fastest growing businesses in New England, with one president, one secretary, five agents, one trainer, a stated policy of only handling property valued at least three million, and assets that grew seemingly exponentially.

Banny read this in the report Nicoletta had given him. There was more, including information about the seven employees, but he did not want to read it right now.

It was boring, and there weren't many pictures. Banny decided to tell Nicoletta to next time make this a comic book.
