Sorry about the absence. I hope to be back by September 15 October 6, with a full explanation. Or, at least, a decent excuse.
Lissa pulled and tugged against her chains in a rage, screaming obscenities.
The two gonners just laughed. Panderson (she wasn't Lizzie, she never was Lizzie, Lizzie was dead) moved in close. And jumped back to avoid a kick. "Silence!" she commanded, and Lissa was quiet, though no calmer. "I've kept you two alive... honestly, I'm keeping you alive to watch you suffer. But I also have questions. Banny, are there any other Worthy Ones?"
Banny answered before he realized what he was doing. "No. Just Lissa and me. As far as I know."
"Lissy," Panderson began. Lissa tried to break through the 'Silence!' command to tell her not to use that name. She almost could. "Lissy, tell me who helps you."
This was a psychic rape. Banny and Lissa could not resist. They answered, even though they put other lives at risk. Panderson had said she couldn't make them do anything against their nature. Another gonner lie?
"Our neighbor, Nicoletta Corvair. Her dog, Mr. Fwuzzums. And the Essencia. Oh, and Antonio, the Demon Tracker, although we helped him more than he helped us. And Mr. Meadowbrook, though not against a gonner." The command had been negated. "And you don't call me Lissy. You don't have the right, you bitch!"
"When I kill you, Lissy, who becomes Worthy? Or does it end with you two? Both of you answer." But they didn't know.
Victoria had been looking at herself in her compact. She studied, as best she could, her legs, her butt, her breasts, through her clothes. She stopped now, and put up her hand, like a schoolgirl. "Can I ask a question?"
"Worthy Ones. You will answer Vicky's question."
"Okay, why are you two the Worthy Ones? What the hell could you be worthy of?"
Banny said "I have no idea." and Lissa said, at the same time, "everybody wonders that. Even Nicky. Even the dog. Even the Essencia itself." That bitch made them insult themselves! Then Banny added, "I mean, Lissa's a hell of a fighter, and a good person, loyal to her friends, but I don't know why me." Lissa, tears flowing down her cheeks, yelled, "because he's a good sweet kind child, and you monsters will never underst-"
"Both of you will be quiet, now," Panderson said calmly. "God, it's worse than first season Star Trek: Voyager, the way you two losers are with each other. Is that everything?"
Victoria had to ask. "Are we allowed to say..." a big pause, then quickly, "God!"
"Yeah. We're not vampires. Hey, you can even go into a church and pray, if you want. Or synagogue, open circle, quickening, rock concert, whatever. You can even get Baptised, Bar Mitzvahed, Welcomed, Slimed, whatever. Of course, none of that'll stop you from being a gonner, you're a gonner for the rest of your existence, but you can keep up appearances. Also you don't have to blaspheme if you don't want to, although it is fun. Especially in front of old people or little children." She laughed in remembrance.
"I wanna try out my new powers."
"'I wanna try out my new powers.' 'I wanna stare at my own ass.'" Panderson laughed. "You're like a child. I know. You're only twenty minutes old. Okay. Shoot... the boy."
Victoria held up her hand, aimed the palm at Banny. A small hole appeared in the palm, there was a sudden krak!, and Banny winced as something scraped his side, slashed his shirt and his skin, and bounced off the brick wall beside him, chipping it.
"DAMN IT!! I missed. And I can't fire another one?"
"Your aim will get better with practice. You just have to see what you want to hit.. As for number of shots... Remember, your gonner powers will improve as you gain material power and wealth. I'll sign some property over to you later; that'll help a little. You know, Duncan tried to run me from behind the scenes, but I out-manuevered him, so my powers became stronger. And now that he's dead, I'll gain more power. Thank you, Worthy Ones. Say 'You're welcome,' and shut up again."
They did.
"Power... power..." Panderson muttered to herself as she ran to her purse, by the stairs next to Victoria's, and reached in. She pulled out a white ring. "Speaking of power... Wonder if it'll fit me."
Victoria said, "but you said that ring is like the ultimate good, created by God himself. What if it destroys you? Then I'll have to... take over the agency myself. Okay. Go ahead and try it."
"Looks a little small. But it's magic. See, it's already expanding to fit."
